About Kaleidoscope London

The Way I See It.

My career is in media, advertising and tech. I have no formal training in photography, but have always loved the power and purity of the still image, its ability to make you stop, think.

I was a keen hobbyist in my 20’s, my first camera was a Pentax SLR with the Cokin filter system. I still have the shots I took in St. Petersburg, Moscow, London and Australia. It came to a shattered end when I dropped the camera on the rocks off Fairlight, Sydney.

Learning: Always, ALWAYS, use a strap.

I shoot with an iPhone and a Fujifilm XT 5. I don’t use Photoshop or any AI enhancement software for any of my photos. I try and limit the amount of ‘juicing up’ in post-production, but I do use correctives and cropping. This is not because of a a purist philosophy, I believe in using tech wherever it enriches an image or, indeed, life. However I do try to express the moment as I see and feel it, which is usually best served with minimal intervention.

This picture was taken by my younger son, HJS, aged 9.
